Election Commission issues notice to Chiranjeevi for violation of code

June 8, 2012
Hyderabad

The Election Commission has sent notice to Rajya Sabha member and former Tirupati MLA K Chiranjeevi for allegedly violating the model code of conduct. Chiranjeevi, while canvassing for the Congress party in Tirupati said that if people vote for the YSR Congress Party, the religious sanctity and sacredness of the Tirumala will be affected.

Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy also received a notice from Election Commission on the past for similar comments. However, Kiran Kumar Reddy was let off after he replied to his notice saying that it was a slip of tongue and not a deliberate attempt to violate the model code of conduct.

The Election Commission has received complaint over Chiranjeevi's comments and acted on it by sending a notice to Chiranjeevi.
