January 19, 2012
Hyderabad

The Praja Rajyam Party has finally something to cheer about after merging their party with the ruling Congress party. Two of the PRP legislators – MLC C Ramachandraiah and Anakapalle MLA Ganta Srinivasa Rao were inducted into the State cabinet today. This was preceded by a number of consultations between the Congress state leadership with the party high command in New Delhi. Though, the Praja Rajyam Party wanted at least three berths to their candidates in the State cabinet, the high command has only allowed two.

Governor ESL Narasimhan has administered the oath taking ceremony at the Raj Bhavan in Hyderabad at 11:43 am, the muhurtam set by PRP president K Chiranjeevi. Both Ramachandraiah and G Srinivasa Rao took oath of office in the name of God. Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy, Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha, APCC president Botcha Satyanarayana, MLC and former PCC president D Srinivas and few ministers were present during the oath taking ceremony. PRP founder and Tirupati MLA Chiranjeevi and his brother in law Allu Aravind were also present and congratulated the new ministers.

After the ceremony, Chiranjeevi thanked the Congress leaders for inducing the PRP leaders in the State cabinet. He said that they have asked for three berths and wanted someone from the Telangana region to be inducted in the Cabinet. However, he made it clear that he is not mounting pressure on the party leadership for any gains. With the induction of the two ministers, the number of the council of ministers is now 39. The Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy said that he will take sometime in allocating portfolios to the new ministers.
