Chiranjeevi plans to woo Chinese tourists

December 9, 2012
New Delhi

Tourism minister Chiranjeevi has announced that director and writer of 'Life of Pi', Ang Lee and Yann Martel, will be awarded the national tourism awards. The awards will be conferred for their work on 'Life of Pi' which has promoted India as a tourism destination. The movie 'Life of Pi' has become a hit in China and has collected $16 million in its opening weekend.

The Tourism ministry is making several initiatives to promote India as a tourism destination. India has only received a fraction of Chinese tourists last year. Records show that while 50 million Chinese travel overseas every year spending $40 billion, less than 1 lakh has visited India on business and tourism.
