Reactions to the Congress-PRP merger

As expected the Praja Rajyam Party will be merged into Congress. The same was announced by PRP chief Chiranjeevi and Congress state in-charge affairs minister Veerappa Moily in New Delhi. The decision to merge PRP with Congress has received both praise and criticism from various political parties in the state.

Visakhapatnam MP Purandeswari Devi called the merger a good sign for the politics in the state.

Minor Irrigation Minister T G Venkatesh said that the merger of the Congress and PRP will further strengthen the Congress party in the state.

Telugu Desam Party senior leader Yanamala Ramakrishnudu said that merger of Congress and PRP will be beneficial to the TDP party.

Congress MP Madhu Yashki Goud said that Chiranjeevi should stand by the decision of Congress party in the Telangana issue.

TRS MLA T Harish Rao said that the merger is not at all useful for the proposed statehood of Telangana. He reminded that the PRP's intention is to keep Andhra Pradesh united and Congress has to give clarification about the same.

CPI State secretary Narayana said that all MLAs elected under the Praja Rajyam Party ticket should resign and contest again on Congress symbol. He said that the merger is unethical.
