An all out offensive launched by the loyalists of the former Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy against the move to forge an alliance with the Praja Rajyam Party for the GHMC elections apparently seemed to have forced the AICC leadership to drop the proposal. The AICC general secretary, M Veerappa Moily made it clear in this regard. Interestingly, the decision came after the APCC president D Srinivas gave the impression the deal over alliance was almost struck.

While refusing to comment, Moily, speaking in New Delhi, said that the alliance is sue is a non issue now. Rumors about it are not correct as there is very short time. The Praja Rajyam late in the evening too announced withdrawal of the move after the party president Chiranjeevi conferred with party senior leaders. Senior Praja Rajyam Party leader C Ramachandraiah said the internal squabbles in the Congress have created an atmosphere that is causing inconvenience to us and that is why we dropped our earlier plan and will fight along. In the fast changing political scenario, PCC president Srinivas held lengthy discussions with KVP Ramachandra Rao on the sidelines of a condolence meeting of Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy and reportedly briefed Chief Minister about the growing dis enchantment over the issue.

The Minister for Agriculture, N Raghuveera Reddy at a press conference questioned the need for an alliance. He said that the Congress is very strong and are confident of winning not only the GHMC elections but the 2014 and 2019 elections as well, he asserted. In response to a query on YSR group being sidelined, he said that 'Newton's third law will come into force. For every action against Jagan Mohan Reddy, there will be an equal and rather strong reaction'.
