The response to the bandh call given by the party committee against the lockout declared on the Chittivalsa Jute Mill evoked spontaneous response at Tagarapuvalasa. The bandh passed off peacefully and day to day life came to standstill. All the shops and establishments down their shutters. The agitated workers of the mill, led by Praja Rajyam Party MLA M Srinivasa Rao staged a rasta roko on the highway near NTR statue paralyzing vehicular traffic for some time.

The All Party committee comprising representatives from Congress, TDP, PRP, CPI and CPI(M) enforced the bandh at the lockout declared on April 20 deprived the 5,200 direct and 15,000 indirect workers of wages for two months. The unprovoked lockout was illegal as the management declared it under the pretext of power cuts. They Continued it even after withdrawal of power cuts saying the management and the mill were facing financial crisis due to recession said Srinivasa Rao.

The MLA Srinivasa Rao who met the Minister for Labour R Venkat Reddy in Hyderabad sought the intervention of the Chief Minister, Dr.YS Rajasekhara Reddy to issue a GO declaring the lockout as illegal and to reopen the mill. He said the wages for the lockout period should be disbursed immediately as the workers were experiencing near starvation. All Party leaders threatened to intensify the agitation if the lock out was not withdrawn. Police in large numbers are deployed and appeared prepared to face any eventuality.
