Praja Rajyam Party begins seat allocation process

February 10, 2009

At a press conference in Ethukuru on the city outskirts, the Praja Rajyam Party president Chiranjeevi said that the party is for social justice but women cannot be given 33 per cent tickets as they are not coming forward to play an active role in politics. He said that women are not active in politics and seat reservation cannot be done based on population figures as the winning chance of candidates was more important.

Chiranjeevi claimed that the Mahila Rajyam unit of the party was more active politically than any other unit, he did not foresee any major role for them at this point. Without outlining his party's stand on the proposed Coastal Corridor project, he opined that industrial development was essential, but not at the cost of the livelihood of local people. On issue of Satyam scam, he opined that the entire scam should be probed by a sitting Supreme Court judge.

In Tenali, three motorcycle borne Praja Rajyam Party supporters were killed and two others seriously injured after they crashed into another motorcycle during a procession on Tuesday morning undertaken by PRP president Chiranjeevi as part of Praja Ankita Yatra in the district. The incident occurred on the Guntur-Tenali road. During this mishap two died on the spot, the third one died while undergoing treatment.
