Praja Rajyam and Congress legislators join hands for an integrated state

December 11, 2009
Hyderabad

Legislators of the Praja Rajyam Party joined hands with those of Congress in staging a demonstration outside the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in Hyderabad asking for an integrated state. The member group, headed by former Minister JC Diwakar Reddy, Government Whip S Sailajanath and Rayalaseema Rights Protection Committee Convener and MLA from Kurnool TG Venkatesh addressed the media and said that the members of both the Congress party and the PR party who have submitted their resignations to the speaker recently have decided that they will be launching protests against the division of the state and fight for a united and integrated state.

It has been decided that hunger strikes will be launched from individual constituencies represented by the participants from Saturday, December 12, 2009. The group will be forming district level co-ordination committees to supervise the program. A delegation formed amongst the members would be meeting Andhra Pradesh Governor ND Tiwari and submit a memorandum.

MLA Diwakar Reddy asked the members to go on a relay hunger strike and not a fast-unto-death so as not to make the situation more troublesome and aggravate the current situation. He said that the members who have submitted their resignations have done so not in a casual manner but are indeed serious and that the members have decided to stick to their decision when the speaker calls them individually for discussion.
